Ai history

Ai opened in 1996 in Cheltenham, Victoria, initially providing sourcing services for small to medium end users of extruded products.

In 2000, Ai relocated to a new facility on Phoenix Court in Braeside. Soon after, the company moved again to Industrial Road in Braeside.

In 2005, Ai introduced the supply to the architectural window and door systems market with Ai Architectural. To accommodate growth, the company relocated to Carson Avenue in Keysborough.

In 2007, Ai acquired Pivotech, a shower door and wardrobe wholesale company with a national network of distributors. The product range broadened and the features continually improved, resulting in significant growth in the fabricator network and sales.

In 2009, Ai began offering value-adding machining and fabrication services to customers with the launch of aiFAB.

In 2010, recognising the increasing performance demands about to be placed on commercial architectural window and door systems, Ai began to research and develop new suites to meet the emerging market needs. This development has accelerated and broadened significantly since 2010 with the research highlighting many improvement opportunities beyond the systems performance. EDGE Architectural Glazing Systems was the result.

In 2010 and 2011, Ai moved Melbourne operations to Dandenong South, expanding into two buildings and quickly taking up about 12,000sqm of manufacturing space. The expanded space allowed for Ai to begin running its own powder coat line, aiPC.

In 2012, Ai acquired Pivotech QLD in Brendale and began directly serving the QLD market.

EDGE Architectural officially began in 2013, as Ai Architectural products were sunsetted. Through our EDGE brand, Ai developed a completely new range of architectural window and door systems designed to satisfy the needs of stakeholders involved in the specification, fabrication, installation and on-going care and maintenance areas of the market segment.

In 2014, Ai acquired Comtruk aluminium truck trays and Tasman Bull Bars. TasCom continued operations from their Tatterson Road location in Dandenong South.

In late 2015/early 2016, Ai added an additional 8,000sqm of manufacturing space at 133 Ordish Road, Dandenong South, VIC to accommodate Ai’s need for increased capacity. Comtruk operations went online first, followed a couple months later by aiFAB. Product development, sales and manufacturing activities for Comtruk and aiFAB are driven from this location.

Today, Ai employs about 120 people. In addition to the approximately 12,000sqm and 8,000 sqm facilities in Melbourne, Ai maintains the branch in Queensland; strategic representation in South Australia, New South Wales and ACT; and key distributors in Western Australia.
